In March, we
were awarded a contract to build and rebuild nine parking lots
around Jack Trice Stadium, home to the mighty Iowa State
Cyclones. At a contract value of $2 million, this project will
be one of the largest non-highway projects that we've built.
The project
consists of 28,000 cu yds of dirt, over 50,000 sy of subgrade
prep, 25,000 sy of fly ash treated base, nearly 22,000 ton of
hot mix asphalt, 5000 linear feet of curb, and over 13 acres
of seeding and sodding.
We will be
self performing the work on 80% of this project, one of our
Company’s best strengths. Phil Maddison and Dick Prusha's
crew have both been on site removing the old pavement, Dave
Schinckel’s road reclaimer will be doing all the fly ash
treated base, Brad Lenz's crew will lay all the curbs and
sidewalks with material supply by our Ready Mix people, Steve
Rooney's dirt crew has most of the fine grading, Craig and the
asphalt crews will lay all the hot mix on the job, even Joel's
crew will be called on to help raise existing steam tunnel
accesses and help with traffic and pedestrian control. As you
can see, no other company is better positioned to build this
job.
Scheduling
will be tight. ISU wants all the work completed by July 23rd,
so the grass seed has 30 days to grow prior to the Cyclone's
home football opener. This means ISU will be spending $750,000
per month on the parking lots for the duration of our job. The
Engineer who designed this job knew the only way to get this
job done on time and within budget was with asphalt paving.
