position,
we wanted something a little more public to show our support. These trucks were designed as a tribute to the men and women who have served our country both past and present, keeping this the land of the free. Compared to what some give up, this is a pretty small gesture. We hope that it will bring their sacrifice to the front of peoples’ minds, even for a little bit, when they see these.
Five Ready Mix Concrete trucks debuted in Newton, Iowa on Sunday,
May 23rd, 2010. The rolling parade around the track was a celebration honoring the military, past and present during Pre Race for the Goodyear Dealers of Iowa 200 NASCAR K&N Pro Series
Event. They then went to Camp Dodge in Johnston for display during their Open House and SOS Breakfast on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31st. After a hearty military breakfast and a great reception at the new Gold Star Museum, they paraded across town to the Veterans Memorial Auditorium to pay tribute to the veterans attending services there. Although a small grouping will be appearing at the Manatts Waterloo Open House, this was the last time that these trucks are scheduled to appear together. After this they will be split up all over the state; Independence, Newton, Brooklyn Ames, Waterloo. A sixth truck paying tribute to the National Guard is also in the works.
The artists (Dave Conner ~ Mid Air And Ink www.midairandink.com assisted by Robert Allison ~ Allison Originals) rendered the images free hand on the entire drums. Countless hours were spent with tiny airbrushes. The details are absolutely phenominal and we are extremely pleased with the results. Special thanks to Housby Mack for painting the trucks, use of their shop, and creative input.
