It looks like spring and the construction season are just around the corner.  Our estimators have been busy this winter and, with our carry-over work, we have a nice start for the season.  To date we have approximately 600,000 square yards of paving on the books, which is more than all of last season.  The good news is that we will start paving hopefully in April instead of June like last year.

Carry-over work includes Eddyville, Schuyler County, Baxter, Boone, The Quarterpost, and the counties of Warren and Page.  New work includes the Tama/Marshall project, Clark County, Creston, Boone County, Union County, and Mahaska County.  Most of the work at the present is mainline paving, so a lot of work should go fast.  Our estimators will continue to bid on new work.

We have been busy this winter with Little Kenny and crew moving dirt at Montour, and Brian and crew crushing at Ames.  We finally had a normal winter, thus the off-season work did not go as well as we had hoped…too cold.

We have a very busy spring for our crushing division.  We need to finish Ames and start Paradigm work for Cessford Construction in Tama County by the end of March.  Next, it will be time for us to make granular subbase on our Tama/Marshall job.  During the same time, we need to make product for Martin-Marietta in West Des Moines.  It is great to be busy and we will deal with the schedule as the season progresses.

We are a little slow on underground work, but we do have a nice job in Boone.

As you can see, the year is shaping up nicely.  I must note, we have the volume, but the work was bid very competitively.  We must work as safely and efficiently as we can.

Kudos to Mike Viehdorfer and crew for winning a smoothness award from ICPA for the 6th Street Project in Ames.  Nice job guys!

It looks like we have gotten the work, now let’s have a safe and productive season.  Welcome back!
