The painting is
done, the floors are waxed, and the overall plant and facilities
have a new face lift for the 2004 season.
It's hard to
believe it's been ten years since opening the Ames RM facility on
Dayton Ave. We are looking forward to the upcoming season as we
have some good work lined up to get us out of the gates and
running.
Since last fall
we have picked up close to 20,000 cy's that should begin this spring
and go thru the summer. We are still waiting to hear on the
"containment" concrete for the USDA Large Animal Facility (almost
7000 cy's). Story Construction has the bid package for this phase,
and I have been working closely with them on this mix design. I
won't go in depth on the ingredients for this mix, but I would call
it a witch's brew. I'll be surprised if it doesn't come out of the
trucks smoking and bubbling. The noncontainment side of the job has
another 1100 cy's and uses the "imported" sand Wendling Quarries
supplies from the Hess pit. As you can see, this will help our
trucking division also.
From speaking
with the other foreman, it sounds like all the divisions in Ames
should be pushing early on the current work load. It looks like we
will be running with 14 trucks again, and all of them will be manned
and running. I have to replace three drivers, so if anyone knows of
anybody in this area, I would sure look forward to speaking with
them.
Let's all look
out for each other and have a safe and productive season.
