Saturday, Feb. 7th
at May City Bowling Center in Cedar Rapids was the setting for the
biggest yet WQI Bowling Tournament. A record 63 bowlers attended
this year. We had some big scores and lots of fun.
New champions this year were the team of Pat (Oats)
and Peggy Trenkamp and Jayson and Careyanne Wood. Oats is a
crushing crew foreman and Jason works on Pat’s crew. They beat last
year’s champs Dick and Alice Carber and Penny and Eddie Doyle, who
had a nice second place finish. (Dick runs loader and Penny is
scalehouse operator at Shaffton Quarry.
Third place went to Glen and Shannon Paup and
Lance Zerbe and Jenny Baxa. Glen runs loader at Hess Sand Pit and
Lance was on Tim McPherson’s crushing plant. Lance had to leave
shortly after the bowling outing to fulfill his military
obligations. Our thoughts and prayers are with him for a quick and
safe return home.
Following the bowling, we adjourned to the lounge for
pizza, awards, and door prizes. The top three door prizes are as
follows: CD/DVD player won by Travis Galloway, $30 Applebee’s Gift
Card to John Butzlaff, and a Harley Davidson Replica Diecast vehicle
won by Peggy Trenkamp.
Thanks to all the vendors who supplied the door
prizes, WQI for allowing us to hold the tournament again and for
supplying the pizza, and all the employees, spouses, and significant
others for attending this year. Next year will be our 10th
tournament, and we’re looking forward to it already.
