Dave Thompson, scale house operator at Moscow Quarry,
will be retiring April 2, 2004 after 18 years with Wendling
Quarries. Since April 14, 1986, when Dave began at Wendling
Quarries, he has seen many changes in the quarry business.
Handwritten tickets and print-outs for weighing trucks are now
computerized. There have been numerous upgrades in plant equipment
and production methods, and the overall growths of the aggregate
industry and of Wendling Quarries are just a few of those changes.
I asked Dave recently if he had any memorable events
while weighing trucks at Wendling. He shared with me about a
blasting incident at the quarry many years ago. Shortly after a
crew blasted, Dave looked up from his position in the scale house
and saw a sizable boulder heading his way. When the dust cleared and
he looked up from where he had taken cover, a rip-rap shaped hole
was now placed in the front gate. Times have certainly changed.
Dave’s attention to service, his experience, and his
pride in his work are greatly appreciated. He will truly be missed
by his fellow employees and the many customers he served.
Finally, Dave and his wife Linda are looking forward
to spending more time together with their daughter Kimberlee and
their grandson Wesley. Dave has assured us that he would
occasionally help out at the scale house . . . if the fish weren’t
biting. We wish you well with your retirement, and thanks again for
all you have done here at Wendling Quarries.
