Well, believe it or not, the winter season is just about over and we will be getting back to work very soon.

The North Ready Mix Plants formed our newest Safety Committee this winter. The committee has representatives from the following plants: Vinton, Independence, Oelwein, Jesup, Readlyn, Newhall and Denver. The committee meets at a different plant each month.  At the end of the meeting, the entire committee does a walk through inspection of the plant site. I would like to congratulate these plants for taking the initiative to form the committee and thank the employees that stepped forward to serve on the committee. Those Committee members are: Chairman Chad Shares, Dale Ott, Darrin McCann, Ron Hummel, Dave McNeal, Eric Brashaw and Scott Shimp.

Our Insurance year is almost completed, and we had a pretty good year. The auto claims and cost were the best we have seen in many years, although we still need to work on our Worker Compensation Claims.

My personal goal is to not have any employee get injured on the job this coming Insurance period. We had 449 employees go the entire 2003-year without an Incident of any kind, so I know it can be done. The annual Supervisor’s Safety Meeting is coming up soon and this will be one of the many topics we will cover. We can, and are, improving with the help and support of management and employees. Let’s work together to make this upcoming insurance year the best ever!
