Clinton Community
College’s Business and Industry Center recently provided Leadership
Training for employees of Wendling Quarries. The three-day program
was titled “Leadership Skills for Improving Teamwork and Results”.
George Varchola, the college’s Director of Quality, conducted the
class. Topics covered included teamwork, problem solving, and
process improvement, coaching skills, communication and qualities of
effective leaders.
This program was
offered as a step in the Strategic Planning process. One of our
goals was to provide more development opportunities for our
employees, for both their benefit and the benefit of the company.
Many Wendling
employees have had the chance to take part in this and other
training programs such as DOT driver refresher classes, computer
classes, and air-conditioning systems repair, to name a few. We
enjoy providing these opportunities and hope to continue to provide
them in the future.
To date we have had 55 people trained. By the first
of May, we will have a total of 112 trained in a wide variety of
topics. As in any education, there is a financial commitment that
goes along with it ($22,348.00 to date). The training has been for
several people - from supervisory personnel, office help, truck
drivers, to equipment operators. In strategic planning, this is the
commitment that we made to help our employees get to the next level
in their career, and to take Wendling to the next level.
