| Here
it is the first of August already. The summer is moving
along pretty fast now and fall will be here before we know
it. We were pretty concerned about our work load earlier
this year for a couple of crews. Now it will be a challenge
to get it all done.
Larry
Sammon and his crack sealing crew are finishing a 27 day DOT
job in Clinton county in the next couple of days and will be
heading to Story County on I-35 and to the city of Grinnell
for about 3 weeks. They also have some work on Hwy 30 west
of Ames and Hwy. 20 in Webster County.
They
also have a couple of PCC cracksealing jobs in Tama and at
the Storm Lake Airport too complete this year.
It
was nice to have a big job close to home for a change for
Larry’s crew.
Bill
Miller and his guys, along with Jake Boyer, just finished a
6,000 ton paving job on Park Avenue in Muscatine. This was
probably the most challenging job they have ever done due to
traffic and the number of manholes and water shutoffs. The
paving turned out pretty nice considering all of the
obstacles.
Two
employees, Merle Old Father and Henry Williamson,
(a.k.a. Popeye) also gave us a big hand an Park Avenue. They
both turned 70 this August. Happy Birthday!!!
They
will head to the Muscatine Power and Water Plant, Wild Cat
Den State Park and then to the City of Durant where Terry
Travis has been most of the year. Illowa is the General
Contractor on this large city project which has storm
drains, water mains and new curbs and gutters. We have 7,000
ton of asphalt to lay there this year.
Ron
Price from Manatts has given us a big hand running a blade
along with a little mechanic work when needed for Terry in
Durant the last few weeks. A big thanks to Mike Manatt for
letting him help us for a while.
Larry
Senger has been out sealing and doing various cracksealing
jobs around the Quad City area. His big job was the parking
lots and drive at the John Deere TPC course in Silvis, IL.
He is supposed to get tickets to the tournament for us.
Keep
working safely out there and keep an eye on traffic,
especially on the 4-lanes. |
