Fall in Ames
Don Stevens
Another year comes and goes along with the football season. I think I can speak for most people here at Ames and say that we weren’t disappointed in the game Saturday. I hope all you Hawkeye fans out there can forgive us.

Anyway, Fall in Ames. The Ames airport was completed on schedule. I think Steve Rooney and the grading crew are relieved to be out of there despite the federal wages. The project in Story City is complete also. This was done ahead of schedule and we have received a lot of compliments on this project.

In the last month we scrambled to finish up projects for the year. It seemed like when we thought we could see an end to the season, two or three new projects would come in. All of a sudden, we had 5 subdivisions that needed to be completed ASAP. In the last three weeks, Brad Lenz, Mark Lamer and the concrete crew placed over 9700 feet of curb & gutter on subdivision work alone. Craig Kalinay, Randy Hugen, and their crews hustled to install the asphalt base on these subdivisions to get them ready before the winter. Joel Clayton and his crew were instrumental in getting all the jobs buttoned up for the year. Fortunately, the weather was kind to us and we were able to complete almost all the projects that needed to be completed before shutdown. Tim Peterson shut down the asphalt plant the day before Thanksgiving.

In the last two years we’ve had some big projects in Ames, which allowed us to place more tons of asphalt during those years. This year we had a lot of smaller projects and still managed to have a good year. Due to skill of our people and their hard work, it looks like we’ve had another good year here in Ames.
