WQI 6th Annual Bowling Tournament
Jackie Behounek
On Saturday March 3,2001 at May City Bowling Lanes the 6th annual bowling outing was held. We had 52 anxious bowlers waiting for the 1:00 p.m. start.

We had a little different format this year than in the past. We went to a handicap scoring system. I felt the new format was needed to keep the interest alive in the outing and to keep it more fair for all levels of bowlers.

We had a lot of fun bowling again, with all the teams wanting to be champs of the 2001 tournament, with the honor was also getting their names on that big trophy that is kept and displayed in our De Witt office.

There were a lot of nice scores, with one in particular. Tony Manatt had a 222. Yes, you read that right the big guy had his first 200 plus game! Congratulations Tony.

This year's championship title goes to the team of Dean and Sheri Paup, Travis Galloway and Jodie Shields. Dean works on the dredge and Travis works on the Russell's crushing crew.

The team had a nice series of 2676, and a high game of 946. Great bowling!

The team of Glen and Shannon Paup and Doug and Doreen Martin had a 2417 series and a 826 high game for a nice 2nd place finish. Glen runs the Hess Sand Pit and Doug is a salesman out of our J Street Office.

Third place went to the team of Shelle Carr, Marvin Flitsch, Larry Svec, and Harvey Dirks. They had a 2405 series and a high game of 849. Shelle is a scale clerk at the Bowser Quarry, Marvin and Larry run moving trucks out of Robins shop, and Harvey is a loader operator at the Robins Quarry.

Good bowling everyone! After the bowling, we went to the lounge where we announced the winners and awarded the prizes. Pizza and pop was enjoyed by all.

Again, a big thank you to Tony and Wendling Quarries for another great outing. We will be looking forward to the 7th annual tournament.
