Here we are at the end of another big year. What’s next? It seems like each year we find our company doing some out of the ordinary type crushing.

Pat Trenkamp started out doing some asphalt recycling, then went to some custom crushing on the new 1,000,000 Sq ft Family Dollar Store. Pat ended the year with more custom crushing in Dubuque, on the new bypass around town.

These jobs were great for Wendling Quarries. I want to thank the crews for being so versatile. While Pat was working on the custom jobs, some of his crew went to Mt Carroll, IL where we were completing a 100,000-ton of 400-pound rip – rap for the Corp of Engineers on the Mississippi river.

In the months of Sept. and Oct., we delivered 65,000 tons of rip – rap. This was not an easy task, every one involved put out a big effort. The Corp of Engineers said they never had anything go so smoothly. Thanks again to all that put in so much effort.

Living and working around the Mississippi gives great pleasure to mother nature’s creations. While working in the area I had the chance to meet a young man by the name of Chad Pregracke. If you have not heard of Chad go to his web site www. Cleanrivers.com. Chad started out to clean up the Mississippi. He’s pulled everything out of the river from tractors and vans to enough Styrofoam to fill two football fields a foot deep! He operates off of donations only; his expenses for the year 2000 were $256,000.

I thought to myself, how could Wendling help Chad in his efforts. When talking to Chad, he told me one of

his biggest problems was getting the trash he picks up to a recycle yard or to the landfill. Wendling had a 1985 Mack Truck we were going to sell, so I talked to Tony Manatt and thought it would be great if Wendling donated this truck to Chad’s efforts. Tony thought the idea was great, so the next time you see a brown Mack truck with Mississippi River Beautification and Restoration Project on it, you can be proud that our company is making an effort in keeping our rivers clean! I am pleased to work for a company that is helping our environment.
