Our fabulous fall weather has left
and with that the 2001 construction season has come to an end. This
means it will soon be time for the Winter Safety Meetings.
The annual Manager’s Safety Meeting will be held on February 26th and 27th, 2002. Additional Safety Meetings will be announced at a later date. My expectation is that everyone will participate in these Safety Meetings. To be a part of the Manatt’s Safety Program you need to attend these meetings. Everyone has to EARN their Safety Points and the opportunity to be in the monthly Safety Drawings by attending safety meetings, following Manatt’s Safety Policies and encouraging other employees to work safely! Employees that fail to attend Safety Meetings or refuse to follow established company safety policies are not entitled to be part of the Manatt’s Safety Program and may pose a safety liability to other employees. The Manatt’s Safety Program is intended to reward safe behavior by employees and is not intended to be a “luck of the draw” lottery for all employees. Congratulations to everyone that earned a Safety Check and went through the entire year without an incident!! If anyone has any specific topics for me to cover in the safety meetings, please me know. Remember these safety meetings are for your benefit so please bring your questions and be ready to participate. The importance of safety in the workplace and how an incident can affect everyone is illustrated by the following example: Let’s say a driver damages his truck to the tune of $2500.00 while on a job site. At 5% profit margin, it would take $50,000.00 of paving or material sales income to cover the cost of the repairs. This means we either pave part of the road for no profit or we deliver loads of product for no profit until the $50,000.00 cost is covered. There are also many intangible costs, which can be as much as two to five dollars for every dollar of loss. As you can see the cost of this incident, which some people might think is minor, affects the bottom line in a big way. The smaller the bottom line the less chance for raises, bonuses, etc. that employees seem to take for granted. Everyone needs to look at “THE BIG PICTURE” and understand the importance of safety in the workplace and how it affects you and the company as a whole! Have a safe winter and remember safety is everyone’s responsibility!!!! See you at the safety meetings! |
