Believe it or not, we made it through another construction season. It looked like we were going to have a really bad year. A lot of our trucks didn’t have much to do until the crews got busy in June. Thanks to the good weather we had this fall, we were able to finish the year strong. Our profit is still down compared to last year. Dump trucks are down about 40% and tractors are down about 20%. Hopefully, we can bring these numbers back up next season. With the work we already have on the books, we should get off to a good start in the spring. I am confident that our estimators will get enough work to keep us busy the rest of the year.

As of Nov. 6, new forms for DOT physicals are required. The new forms are designed to help guide doctors who are not experts on the medical requirements for commercial drivers through the process and help keep drivers with serious medical problems from slipping through the cracks in the system. Among other changes, the rules for what can disqualify someone from driving a truck are actually printed right on the form.

I would like all drivers to get their DOT physicals done during the winter or in the spring before you come back to work It is not always possible to take time off in the middle of the season to get your physical done. Our health insurance will cover (1) routine physical per year, which can be used for your DOT physical. If you have any questions on how to do this, contact Diane at the Brooklyn office. Dwight or Diane have the new forms in Brooklyn. Merry Christmas!!
