The end of the construction season is upon us.  What a year we had in the Des Moines Metro area.  In the ready-mix supply side, we have set new quantity records for nearly every month this year.  Thank you to all the drivers, mechanics, and plant managers that put in the extra effort to make this possible.  We can only hope that the ready mix market will be as kind to us, when we see two new competitors enter into the Des Moines market next year.  Lets show them how the big boys do things by having another record breaking 2005!

On the PCC paving side, we had a strong push at the end.  We’ve accomplished what we needed to get done and more.  The weather held out just long enough so that we could satisfy the majority of our paving customers.  We also had a chance to help out some of the other pavers in town.  This year has been an effort by the industry with all the extra work that West Des Moines awarded to develop the land south of Jordan Creek Town Center.  We are proud of our partnerships in the Metro area and we are fortunate to be able to work with our competitors as opposed to against them.  None of this could be accomplished with out the members of our paving team that push to get the work done.  Your efforts do not go unnoticed, congratulations on another successful paving year.

The big project that the Metro Division took on this year was erecting a new plant at our Ankeny site (shown to the left and below in the various stages).  You probably have noticed the new building driving by on I-35.  This plant is going to be operational by the spring of 2005.  It will have the ability to produce in the winter, unlike the old plant that now literally stands in its shadow.  We are excited to have this state of the art facility and I know the guys in Ankeny will be able to keep it looking nice for years to come.  Be safe this winter, don’t drink and drive, and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
