Have you ever looked at something day after
day, maybe even month after month and not notice
something wasn’t quite right with it? And when
it’s called to your attention you realize that
all you needed was a fresh set of eyes. That’s
what we are trying to do at Wendling Quarries,
use a fresh set of eyes.
This year we implemented our Field Safety
Committee and it’s been received very well in
the field. We have several employees from
different departments within the company on the
committee. On a select day, the committee
members |

are told to meet at a central location. When
everyone is together, only then does the
committee know whose crew’s they are to
inspect.
When arriving at a plant, our committee can
be seen walking around, climbing up ladders,
looking at guarding, electrical wiring and
panels, going through paperwork and listening
for backup alarms on vehicles, just to name a
little of what they are looking at. They are
using their knowledge of what MSHA looks for
when they inspect our plants. They also trade
tidbits on how things are done at their
operation, all in the hopes of making our
company safe and to help reduce citations.
We want to thank both our employee’s and
their supervisors for making this committee
successful. Committee members are: Terry
Adler; wash plant supervisor; Phil (Skeeter)
Beckley, Plant man with Dave Kageman’s crew;
Travis Galloway, Plant man with Russell Heinsius’
crew; Jeff Huisenga, Loader/Operator at Garden
Plain, Terry Nichols supervisor; Lee Johnson,
Maintenance, Robins shop, Tom Gaffney
Supervisor; Jayson (Woody) Wood, Oats
Trenkamp’s crew.
