Last year Manatts in Waterloo was supplying a new Lincoln Elementary on the East side of Waterloo.  As the project neared completion, Nancy Showers from Partners in Education approached Tim Manatt about whether Manatts would be interested in donating some concrete outside of the school.  Tim came up with an idea that would be fun for the kids and yet is something that is special and unique.  The idea was to put in

a sidewalk around a current patio in front of the school with each of the kids’ handprint in it.

After working closely with Nancy Showers, on October 11th & 12th, Tim’s idea finally became a reality.  Manatts joined forces on the project with Partners in Education, Schott Construction and the Waterloo Fire Department.  Each of the over 400 children was allowed to put a handprint in the concrete wearing a plastic glove for safety.  All the teachers and all of us (volunteers) put a handprint in as well.  The Waterloo staff including Larry Keller, Dave Distler, Chas Wagoneer and Carolyn Hotzel helped on the project.  Burt Ostert & Joe Yuhas (Liberty Mutual) were on hand to make sure that all the proper safety precautions were in order.  Holly Collison from Basic Materials also helped and photographed the project.  It was a great project; kids will be showing their handprints off for years to come.
