The pleasant fall temperatures and weather allowed us to get a little more work done in 2005, but, Old Man Winter has arrived. We’ve had snow intermittently and I’m glad we don’t have any crews out of town.

Larry Senger and crew are trying to complete a job in Davenport on Highway 6, working at night due to the volume of traffic. They should get done before Thanksgiving.  They just completed a job in Page County, sealing cracks on various roads throughout the county. The job went very well.

They were working on the opening day of pheasant season, when Mike Weir killed an eight point buck …….with his truck. ($3000 in damages). The guys got a tag for the deer, had the good side butchered, and ate marinated, grilled deer the next few days.

Brian Armstrong, Jeff Herington, and the Asphalt Crew, are trying to finish a few asphalt jobs before Thanksgiving in Muscatine.

They are chasing behind a local dirt/sewer contractor, paving streets after sewer main work is done.  They are also working on a roadway and parking lot for Hon Industries. With our sudden blast of winter the surface may have to wait until next year.

The guys have put down over 47,000 ton this year, which is a good year for Illowa.

The color surfacing on the outside tennis courts at Iowa are completed. The eight indoor courts could be ready sometime in February after all other inside work is completed. Painting courts in the winter would be a first for Illowa.

In the October letting Illowa picked up three DOT maintenance jobs, one in Davenport, which we started in November.  We will have some work close to home to start in the Spring of 2006.

Congratulations to everyone at Illowa for a very safe and productive construction season in 2005 and to Travis Porter for Rookie of the Year in the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders. May every year be as safe as 2005.  Hope that everyone has a safe holiday season in their winter travels, where ever that may be.
