Well the end of another season is just about here. We
are not closing the season out on a good note like I had
hoped we would. In the span of five days we wrecked a
backhoe, had two trucks involved in collisions with
another vehicle, had an employees leg run over by a
truck and tipped a ready mix truck on it’s side. Overall
this year we have done very poorly when it comes to Loss
Control. We have had many more incidents than last year
and unfortunately that will affect our bottom line along
with our experience modifier in a negative way. Things
are definitely trending the wrong way. This winter needs
to be spent evaluating our existing or lack of policies,
training and safety programs.
Upcoming events of note are the Safety Committee Members
Appreciation Day on Thursday January 19, 2006 in
Brooklyn. Also the annual Supervisor’s Safety Meeting
will be held on February 7th
and 8th
in Brooklyn. As the title says it’s the “Supervisor’s”
Safety Meeting not Burt’s Safety Meeting so I plan on
getting the Supervisor’s involved this meeting. Everyone
needs to start thinking of ways to improve the safety
culture at Manatt’s so we can someday be in the same
class as Mortenson and have zero tolerance for unsafe
acts and unsafe employees.
Have a safe and merry holiday season. |
