Work
abounds for the computer department. We are in the middle of
shuffling around 31 PC’s in preparation for the Viewpoint
launch later this spring. With a new accounting system, comes
more stringent requirements for our computer systems in the
Company. John has been doing a great job building systems and
getting people moved across to new machines. I know it would
make his job a lot easier if you could remember to SAVE YOUR
FILES TO THE SERVER!!! It amazes me to see people saving
important documents to their local hard drives. If the terms I
just used are confusing to you, call Jamie and schedule some
class time.
As
many people in Brooklyn have noticed we are also making a lot of
changes to the servers. Our servers had been running on Windows
NT4, which Microsoft introduced in 1996. MS replaced this with
Windows 2000 Server almost 2 years ago. The timeline for
changing over came on very fast since Microsoft announced they
would discontinue support for NT starting in 2003. Needless to
say, this department has a big heapin’ helpin’ on its plate
to finish off for the winter.
The
topping on it all is the fantastic Christmas Light display in
front of the Brooklyn office. Jamie and Candace carried the load
on that this fall and did a great job. Tell them that when you
see them!
As
many of you have heard, we are going to construct a classroom in
some unused space above the Technical Center in the new
building. This room will comfortably hold 12 people and an
instructor for classes. Each person will have a computer in
front of them and the instructor’s computer screen will be
connected to a projector. This method of teaching is very
effective and will aid us greatly in rolling out Viewpoint this
spring. The completed space is also going to double as a
disaster recovery area. In the event of some unforeseen calamity
this area could provide temporary shelter for the company’s
vital systems.
That’s
everything in a nutshell. I hope everybody has a Happy Holiday
season. Work safe and work hard!
