The
2002 construction season is over. I can’t say that it was a
great year, but I am proud of our people for the jobs that they
did in a difficult market. The production levels, on a whole,
exceeded expectations, making the bottom line come out better
than expected. Thanks to Steve Armstong, Dennis Pfentz, Curt
Chambers, along with their crews, for making this possible.
We
were short of work all year until we started the Jasper County
Projects. Prior to this, the crews were only working 4 days per
week. When we started the Jasper County work, they were able to
work 5-6 days per week.
During
September we had plans to start a job in Guthrie County, but due
to job tonnage increases and bad weather in October, we were
lucky to finish the Jasper County work!
Being
able to carry over the Guthrie job should help us get a jump on
things next season. This job is approximately 60,000 tons of HMA
and includes milling the entire project. We will then widen and
overlay it.
Next
week brings us the APAI convention. Part of this convention is
to bring recognition to the best jobs in about 10 different
categories.
I
am proud to say that Manatt’s will be getting the County
Resurfacing Smoothness Award for our project in Benton County.
We will also be getting the County Resurfacing Smoothness Award
for the Sully Haul Road project in Jasper County!
Congratulations to everyone that was involved in these projects.
To
all of the Manatt’s employees and your families, I would like
to wish you Happy Holidays! I hope to see everyone in the spring
of 2003!
