One
season comes to an end, and another one begins. Or at least that
is how it seems to the Accounting department.
November
30 ends the Corporation year which means we will start seeing
many strangers running around the office. Our books must be
audited yearly which means the Auditors from Clifton, Gunderson
& Co. will be here in December to audit our books. This
means a lot of work for everyone here since the Auditors always
seem to want us to look up many different items for them.
We
also have to get the files ready for a new year. That means
microfilming the old files and then packing them up for a year
before they are destroyed. The microfilming takes us several
months to do. So, by the time the field people are starting to
think about getting back in the field, we are ready for you to
do just that.
Finally,
our tax year ends on March 31 and so we have tax auditors here
looking at our tax records. This goes on for a month (seems
longer), but finally we are ready for the new construction year.
I’d
like to conclude with a small note for you. If you’ve noticed
that we have put ads in various newspapers for my replacement,
don’t celebrate too much yet! My scheduled retirement is still
4 years off, but we want to have a replacement hired that will
have plenty of time to learn about the Companies before I leave.
The
accounting department hopes everyone had a great Thanksgiving
and wishes all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
