Another
construction season has passed by and now we start another
season, Winter maintenance. This is a really busy time for all
of the shops. We have all of the trucks and equipment to go
through to get ready for the next construction season.
This
winter, I would like to get a few schools/seminars put together.
In the past, we have had oil/anti-freeze schools and filtration
schools. This year, I am putting together an air brake school to
be put on by Bob Pollack from Bendix Air Brake systems. Bob is
the head of the Bendix Tech hotline and a VERY knowledgeable
person on air brake systems.
I
have wanted to put this school on for the last 2 years but it
has taken a long time to get schedules to meet because Bob is in
such high demand for these seminars. We have finally gotten
together and come up with March 12, 2003, as our date. We will
have the session in the big meeting room here in the Brooklyn
office. The school will start at 9:00 a.m. and last until 12:00
noon. A lunch will be provided by Bendix after the class. If you
would like to attend, please contact me here at Brooklyn Parts.
I would like to see all of the sister companies represented, as
well as personnel from all of the Manatt shops. If you have a
specific topic or problem pertaining to air brakes you would
like discussed at this meeting please, contact me so I can
include it in our agenda. I hope to see you there.
Footnote:
I
have been getting a few phone calls asking what kind of
Anti-freeze we should be putting in different kinds of
equipment. We should be converted to Old World Anti-Freeze
Company wide by now. There are two different formula’s of
anti-freeze we must use.
Fleet
Charge is one and Final Charge is the other.
The
following is just a rough guideline; if you have ANY doubts,
please call me to confirm what formula to put in.
FINAL
CHARGE
Cat
equipment using ELC coolant (red)
GM
cars and trucks using DEXCOOL formula
FLEET
CHARGE
Mack
Cummins
Detroit
Engine
Cat
Engines 1997 and older
This
anti-freeze is the replacement for “Green” anti-freeze
Again,
if you have doubts as to which formula to use, please call me.
These coolants must not be mixed together!
