Another
construction season has come to an end for the portable asphalt crew
under Steve Armstrong, Denny Pfantz and Curt Chamber’s
supervision. I would like to thank Steve, Denny, Curt and
their people for the way we had to bid the jobs in order to get any
work. We came out better than I expected.
This
season we worked in Guthrie County on Hwy 965 doing 63,900 Ton of
HMA. From there we went to Hwy 85 in Poweshiek County doing
26,300 Ton of HMA. This work was completed using the Malcom
Plant. In Benton County, we placed 27,100 Ton on three
different projects. After Benton it was on to Hamilton County
to do 7 different projects totaling 41,100 Ton of HMA. We then
moved to Franklin County, and did 19,650 Ton from Ackley to
Geneva. The last job of the year was in Worth County with two
projects that totaled 35,650 Ton of HMA.
Over
the course of the season, we worked in 6 locations moving the
asphalt plant to 5 of those locations. The work totaled
213,700 Ton. This is the volume of work that is done about
every year.
It
appears work will be as hard to come by next year as it was this
year. As of now the only carry over work we have is Jasper
County that has two projects totaling about 30,000 Ton. That
means in order to have enough work for the 2004 season we still need
at least another 180,000 Ton of HMA. We are hoping to pick up
a job or two in the December letting.
I
would again like to thank the crews for their efforts this past
season in safety as well as getting the jobs done
successfully.
I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday!
