Great Turn Out at Drivers' Meeting
Greg Ollinger

On March 30, 2001, we had our annual Drivers Meeting. We had a good turn out with 86 drivers attending. Hopefully we can get all of our drivers here next year.

After some opening comments, Mike Manatt gave a brief overview of the company, insurance costs, and why our rates have increased.

Deputy Lawrence McNaul talked about drugs and alcohol.

Officer Kevin Smith with the Iowa DOT showed the drivers what they look at when doing a safety inspection. We tried something different this year. He went over a truck and pup in the shop with (4) small groups instead of just showing a movie. There were a lot of good questions asked. I think it gave some of the drivers and myself a better understanding of what to look for when doing pre-trip inspections.

John Peterson had Greg Stigall with Michelin Tire go over proper tire inflation and how important it is to tire wear.

Farmer Nicks catered a very good noon lunch. We even had pie for Bud DeMeulenaere. The afternoon was spent on company matters, paper work, benefits, insurance claims, etc.

We saved the best for last, the drawing. . .

Winners are:                 Jeff Engelby - Out door grill

                                    John StoryShop vac

                                    Eric Cain - Turkey cooker

                                    Owen Ross - Leather jacket

                                    Dave Sanders - Cat jacket

                                    Gary Playle - Big cooler

                                    Don Meyers - Little cooler

                                    Rob Johnson - Cordless drill

                                    Marc Olson - Coffee cup

                                    Mike Margeson - Coffee cup

Robert Moore - Tire shop cap

Ron Allen - Tire shop cap

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for next year’s meeting let me know.  Drivers, remember to use the (3) point exit when getting out of your trucks and look before backing.   Please drive and work safely, and try to finish the year without having any more accidents.
