Early this spring, Brad brought me a letter from Larry Stewart of the
Westwood Golf Club in Newton. He was interested in hosting our
golf outing, if there was to be one, at Westwood.
Brad mentioned that if we had a golf tourney this year, I
would have to put it on. So here goes.
The date has been set for October 6th, 2001. Tee off time has
been set for Noon so we can attempt to get all 18 holes in
before dark. At the present, the plans are to play at the
Westwood Golf Club in Newton. The club is located on F48 (old
hwy # 6) west of Hwy 14 at the west side of Lambs Grove. This is
an 18-hole course and is in very fine shape as of this writing.
Facilities to feed a group (Hy-Vee catering) are available on
the premises. Power riding carts will be available if spoken for
before hand.
The format will be 4-person best ball with
2 foursomes per hole. We’re hoping for between 100
and 144 golfers to attend. Prizes will be given for
different hole games to be decided at a later date. The winning
four-some will receive a traveling trophy with team members
names engraved on it. The same trophy will be awarded to the
winner of next year’s outing. In trying to hold the cost down,
we have set a price of $35.00 per person for green fees, cart
rent and a meal of burgers and brats. Also, we will use the
entry fee to pay for prizes or gift certificates for the hole
games played. I am trying not to ask vendors for any donations
and have the tourney be self-sufficient.
Get your teams together and send your fees to the Brooklyn office to
Gene
Manatt or Deb White. The first 144 players will be entered in
the 8th Annual Manatt Golf Outing.
Anyone wanting to put a team together please contact
either Gene or Deb in the Brooklyn office for an entry form.
Team players do not need to be division specific as in
the past.
