One
particular business owner suspected all his employees and
managers of loafing whenever they got a chance.
One day he saw a young man leaning against the wall in a
hallway. The
owner charged up to the young man and demanded, “How much do
you make a week?” “$300,”
said the startled young man. The
owner pulled $300 from his pocket, thrust it at the young man,
and said, “You’re all done here! Don’t come back!” The
young man quickly disappeared.
Just then a manager appeared in the hallway. The
owner accosted him. “I
just fired that loafer who was wasting time around here.
You better watch your staff more closely!” “What
loafer?” said the manager.
“That kid was the delivery man from the sandwich shop
around the corner. He
was waiting for the $25 we owed him.”
