In
mid-March, our annual Supervisors’ Safety Meeting was held at
the Brooklyn office.
For the entirety of two days, nearly all of the crew
Forepersons and Superintendents from Manatts, Inc., as well as
several administrative representatives from many of our sister
companies, attended and participated in this year’s meetings.
The first day
was devoted solely to workplace safety topics that remain
ever-present threats to all of us in our daily activities.
There were some
familiar faces among the speakers this year as well as some that
made their initiatory debut on the Manatt ‘s stage. Topics
ranged from EEO-AA issues to proper vehicle and equipment
maintenance. Jim Bim
even contributed to the occasion by showing all of us how not
to sit in a chair. I
sincerely believe that each of us gained a bit of useful and
potentially life-enhancing information from every one of the
speakers this year.
The second half
of the second day allowed for the discussion of matters within
the company. Representatives presented reports from each division or
department of Manatts, Inc.
This year, the
first half of the second day concluded with the magic/comedy
talent of Tim Gabriellson.
Never before have I witnessed so many people in one room
so afraid to breathe, in fear that the slightest movement might
instigate an undesired reaction from Tim.
I would like to
offer a special thanks to those who willingly or unwillingly
participated in Tim’s act: Especially to Diane Kilmer and Jim
Dommer. At
the expense of their dignity, the audience enjoyed a few
tear-wrenching moments of laughter.
While our primary focus was directed toward workplace
safety, Tim’s program added a humorous touch to some very
serious issues.
This annual
event may not be your first or even your second choice of ways
to spend two full days. However,
the Supervisors’ Safety Meeting will instill in you some of
the knowledge necessary to ensure that you are healthy and able
to enjoy your first and second choices when the workday is
through. Have a
SAFE and successful season!
Manatts will
miss Jake, but wishes him luck as
he learns the tricks of the patching business at
his new position with Illowa!
