It’s been a busy spring around here as it usually is this time of year.  We are finishing up the Meskwaki Casino/Hotel expansion.  This has been a very nice job for Manatt’s and the Wendling Montour Quarry as well.  The next phase is to build a parking ramp, and that could start at any time.

We are finishing up at the new Elementary School in Tama and are getting ready to pave a parking lot there.

Another project that we are finishing is a new day care center complete with concrete parking lot in Toledo.

The future looks good for this area with a 50 Million gallon ethanol plant coming to town with possible expansion to a 100 million gallon even before ground is broke.  The Highway 30 by-pass around Tama and Toledo is just around the corner also.  This should be good for our business, with structures, paving and materials needed to complete the project.

The scale business has been steady at Tama with all the Ready Mix plants getting busy and supplying sand to the Highway 6 Overlay Project. The sand and gravel operation was moved to Waterloo this spring to produce sand for Milt at Aspro.  The old pit at Aspro was depleted of sand, and we jumped across a road to start a new sand pit in a puddle
that wasn’t much bigger than the dredge (above).  We are about a half of a mile away from the plant now from where the dredge sits, so we purchased a booster pump to help push the sand that distance.  An additional water pump was also required to keep the dredge afloat in such a small body of water.  Without it, Carl would pump all the water out of the hole in a day’s time and probably be able to walk to shore at the end of the day.  Mike Naber and his crew have been working feverishly to put 100,000 ton on the ground for Milt before we run out of sand at Tama.  We have our work cut out for us this year, so we are trying to run as safely and efficiently as possible to insure a quality and productive season!
