As a business it is important to be an active member in the local community.  Since Wendling Quarries, Inc. has so many locations throughout Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois at times it can be difficult to be involved in all of the local activities.  But, when there is a chance and it is feasible, it is always nice to be able to show the public how much WQI is a friendly neighbor.

Recently, WQI was one out of around 25 local businesses invited to participate in the DeWitt Central Community Schools Career and Community Fair.  WQI took the opportunity to show the students the different jobs that are offered at a rock quarry.  The best part of the career fair was seeing each individual’s reactions when they saw Quarry Development’s Survey equipment, core samples, and pictures of various quarry locations, pictures of the new DeWitt Shop as well as some of the sample fossils.

The kids that attended the career fair ranged from asking specific questions about core sampling and AutoCAD to not knowing anything about WQI or what types of jobs are offered.   Hopefully the Career Fair opened their eyes of what possible opportunities could be available in the future when they are  job searching.
