Wendling Quarries, Inc. helped out
with a local project to open up recreational
opportunities for local fisherman at Maquoketa,
Iowa. Bob Sheets, the local Iowa Department of
Natural Resources, Wildlife Biologist, asked
Tony Manatt if he’d be interested in helping the
Jackson County Ikes with a project to provide
access to the Maquoketa River just west of the
Town of Maquoketa. According to Bob, the dam
area has been off limits to fishermen until
recently, when two new owners acquired the
property. The current owners are willing to
open up access to the river and let people cross
the dam to fish the other side. The parking
area at the site was in very poor condition and
a local contractor donated some dirt to bring it
up to grade, which we hauled in. We also
provided crushed stone to surface the lot.
