As I travel around to all of our various offices in search of people
to whom I can teach computer skills , I am constantly amazed by all the
stories I hear about people I would like to refer to as “Heros” in
our company. Who are these heros and what makes them heros? This is the first article, of many, where I will use the Manatt’s
Mirror as an opportunity to salute these individuals, who give so
generously of their knowledge, time and spirit to various activities and
organizations in their communities. Through their hard work and
dedication, they are making an important I’d like to introduce our first “hero”, Nancy Ollinger. Nancy handles Insurance Claims here in the Brooklyn Office. One of Nancy’s most recent volunteer activities was the 30 Hour Famine sponsored by World Vision. This organization helps to feed the hungry world wide, including the United States. Nancy organized a group of our local youth to agree not to eat for 30 hours. Nancy and these young teenagers spent the 30 hours learning about the people they were raising money for and doing various community service projects. Nancy and her group of teenagers raised $747.00 of which $312.00 will go to sponsor a hungry child. This will help feed this child for one year. They can write letters and send pictures to their child making it a much more personal experience. Nancy also gives her time in various other ways to our community. She has been a 4-H leader for 6 years. Nancy likes working with the kids and likes “to see their self-confidence build when they do well or accomplish a ‘big’ project”. Nancy also volunteers at her church, Grace United Methodist Church as a youth leader for the Junior High group. They meet twice a month. At their meetings they typically have a lesson, discussion, do fun activities, and play games. Nancy is referred to as the “Game Queen” for her imagination and talent for coming up with new game ideas. She has told me that she likes working with Jr. High kids because she can just “be stupid” with them. She enjoys volunteering because she likes the kids and hopes that she is making a small difference! Thanks Nancy! You are making a difference! Do YOU know someone that you would like to see featured in the Manatt’s Hero Gallery? Please, let me know! Send your stories to: Jamie Kriegel |
