South Ready-Mix Update
Chris Manatt

As one of the milder winters in memory concludes, we are gearing up for the construction season.

Ken and I have been quoting ready mix jobs. Victor will be very busy when the season starts, supplying concrete for the following projects: two bridges in Brooklyn as well as the paving between them, a new parking lot at Victor Manufacturing, and also the concrete around the new products building.

Tama has been hauling to the Highway 30 Iowa River bridge all winter and still has several yards to supply there. Also, there is a large bank project coming this summer in Tama.

Vinton has several jobs that are being let at this time, including a bank in Urbana, curb and gutter in Urbana and an addition to the nursing home in Vinton. Newhall will be busy as the year starts with a few large wall projects as well as a new sewer plant in Van Horne. Tipton also has jobs being let in the next few weeks, including two culverts and industrial park paving. Reed has some culverts to supply first thing near Belle Plaine.

Traer should start the year off very busy. Vernon will be supplying concrete to an addition at Traer Manufacturing as well as a city center project in Gladbrook. Finally, the plants in Grundy Center and Wellsburg will continue to haul several thousand yards to the bridges along new Highway 20 and to the Grundy County Industrial Park.

There have been two promotions in the ready mix division. Randy Cooper, former Newton ready mix driver and asphalt plant operator, is the new manager of the Grinnell plant. Clay Prior, the former Grinnell Manager, is starting his own business repairing small engines. Eric Brashaw, who operated the plant in Wellsburg last year, is the new manager of the Newhall plant.

Have a safe construction season and as always - WEAR YOUR HARDHATS.
