What's Happening in Quality Control
Allen Heintz

We welcome a new employee to Quality Control - Kevin. Kevin comes to us from Basic materials in Waterloo. Kevin will take over the duties on the grade in Hardin county this year.

With all the changes at the DOT, we are seeing the changes coming down to us. It is very important everyone keep on top of these changes, as they will affect all PCC, HMA and Profilograph work.

The DOT is proposing additional testing on structures in 2003. Also we will be doing additional testing on the profilograph for data on “0” Blanking band and running the wheel tracks. It is anticipated the DOT will go to wheel track traces and computerized profilographs or proscan for the reducing of the traces.

HMA has made changes in testing frequencies and sample sizes this year. And we will be looking at more quantities used for test strips in the future.

The Waterloo testers have made the move to the United Lab now. They are still fine tuning the set up but the lab has been certified by the DOT and is ready for the busy year.

The QMA Lab trailer was completely refurbished this winter and upgraded. I have to give special thanks to Dave H and his team for the fine job they have done on the trailer; also the weld shop for the modifications they have done.

Thank you to all the guys for a job well done.
