I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday since our last newsletter.  From reading my last article I explained a little bit about the “Ames Bubble”.  The USDA project we have been working on since March of last year.  On December 3rd the “bubble” burst.  I believe I have a good understanding of what happened but it will probably be determined in the coming years by a group of lawyers.  It only took several minutes for the whole structure to come down and then the 50 mph winds made it look like your neighbor kids had just tepeed your front yard tree.  After great debate by the “higher ups,” another dome has been erected with a New York company.  This bubble has almost 3x the air pressure the other structure had.  The USDA plans on leaving this up until the completion of the project, which will be in 2006.

This winter has been one of the busiest we’ve had since I’ve been up here.  It seemed like every day 3-6 trucks were needed to meet the daily demand.  As for other news around Ames, it appears we will be having another very busy year.  We were able to pick up the ethanol plant, which we have been told, has over 50,000 cy’s and will be completed by November of ’05.  Several paving projects are already on the books and with our day-to-day normal business the trucks should keep continuously on the move.   Currently I am looking for 4-5 new drivers for the RM.  With the help of Dan & Diane 3 are officially hired.  My thanks go to those two and their efforts.  I’m sure many of you will be getting a phone call some time looking for some help. Please be patient and say “yes”.  Let’s all have a safe and productive 2005 construction season.
