The Ames safety committee has been working hard this
winter. They have met many times to develop new hire
orientation policies, improve the information flow of
incident reports, more informative tool box talks, to
set the agenda for our divisional safety meetings and
they developed a mentoring system for new hires. Their
commitment to their fellow employee's safety should be
commended. It's all about making sure our co-worker and
friends make it home safe and sound each and every
night.
I
would like to praise Jim Kieffer for the work he puts
into the safety committee. Jim is committed to making
our company a safe place to work. He has completed
training to become a certified First Aid, CPR and
Automatic Defibrillator Trainer. If you would like Jim
to visit your job site, company meeting, or community
group I’m sure he'd be happy to do so.
The Ames office has been very busy this off-season.
We've been fairly successful at the bid table. We've
taken the county's work, a large IDOT job on I-35 that
involves night work, the Gilbert High School and many
more nice projects. I think it's safe to say we have
more work on the books than usual for this time of year.
A
few of our people have taken on new challenges this
spring. Steve Rooney who had been our fine grade
foreman for the past five years has agreed to lend a
hand in the office as an estimator/project manager.
Cory Miller has stepped into the fine grade foreman's
position. Jon Muntz will be taking on the
responsibilities of managing the utility crew. I'm
confident that these men will do an outstanding job in
their new positions.
Our ready mix people are going to be busy again
this year. They are getting three new mixers and six
new drivers to help get the work done. They should be
finishing up the USDA project this spring, just in time
to start the new Ethanol plant east of town. I doesn't
look like the growth around here is going to slow down
anytime soon.
Be careful, be safe, and have a fun summer.
