Spring is just around the corner and we are gearing
up for another safe and productive construction season.
We have been busy this winter with estimating, meetings,
training, convention, repairing & maintenance of
equipment, along with purchasing new equipment and
trucks. It seems it does not slow down in winter; we
are still busy.
We have some work for the PCC crews with carryover
and new work. The carryover will be in Marshall and
Benton Counties. We have two new county jobs in Cedar
and Keokuk. For city work, we have a nice job in Ames
on Lincoln Way and a small job tied with a bridge
overlay on Duff. There is a small remove and pave job
on I-35 subbed from Tom, mostly in Story County. We are
apparent low bidder on the Cedar Rapids Airport with
some 16” paving. We are also building a subdivision in
Brooklyn. We have partnered with some local businessmen
to develop 14 lots on the north side of Brooklyn. This
is the first new development in Brooklyn since the early
80’s. If anyone is interested in some nice lots to
build in Brooklyn, call Jeff Banes.

Brian and the crushing crew have been busy crushing
in Ames for Tom, then to Curt’s in Des Moines. We
picked up two Paradigm jobs in Audubon County with
Donn’s Newton crews and one in Shelby for Western
Engineering. The crushing crews are looking for a busy
season.
The underground crew with Otis in charge has been
working on a project in Knoxville most of the winter.
Monte and crews will need to finish last year’s job in
Huxley. We also have the Ames job and Brooklyn
development to build.
We have a good start to the season, but need to
pick up some more work.
At the ICPA workshop we had a great year in the
awards department. We picked up 5 smoothness awards;
three for Metro Division and 2 for Brooklyn. The two
for Brooklyn were Mahaska County and Ames.
Congratulations to all involved, great work. We also
had one of our own elected as President of ICPA, Mr.
Duane McDonald. Kudos to Duane, hope you have a great
year as prez!
Again this year, our goal is to improve on safety.
We need to change our culture; to never walk by an
unsafe act, to be responsible for ourselves and our
fellow workers. We need to work on our number of
incidents, which were again up last year. I believe our
various safety committees are starting to make an
impact. Remember our number one goal is to have
everyone return home from work safely.
We look forward
to everyone returning for the season. I believe it
should be another good year.
Remember: Safety – Quality - Production
