The next highway construction season is almost
upon us. We are positioned to have a strong
start this spring. Developers are already
calling to get their projects paved in order to
open up lots for more homes. It seems like the
warm winter made it possible for homebuilders to
work through the winter which also gave us a
steady flow of ready mix business. We should be
able to hit the ground running when we start
back to work this spring.
From a safety standpoint, we have a lot to
improve on from our previous year. I urge our
crews to take time reviewing the hazards of your
operations with your crew. Hopefully, EVERYONE
contributes at safety talks and knows that if
they see anything unsafe, stop what you are
doing, fix it, and then go back to work. It
takes all of us working together to create a
safe work environment.
The Metro Division has begun recruiting for the
upcoming season. We have had some good help
this winter and hope to continue bringing in
talented people this spring. If you know of
someone in the Des Moines area that would be a
good fit in our operation, have them stop by the
office in Johnston and fill out an application.
It seems like we are hiring mixer drivers all
year round.
The Brooklyn PCC division will be getting a very
early start on the I235 project. We will be
ready to support their effort and I look forward
to seeing familiar faces in town. Lets everyone
have a safe, high quality, and productive start
in 2006. |
