Wendling Quarries held their 8th Annual Bowling Tournament on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at May City Bowling Lanes in Cedar Rapids. We had 52 bowlers, some great scores, and a wonderful time. The fun began at 1 p.m. with the team of Dean Paup, Sherie Paup, Travis Galloway and Jodie Shields trying to defend their 2002 championship. Cal Paup filled in for Travis, who couldn’t bowl due to back surgery. The champions put up a good fight, but fell to this year’s first-place team of Penny Doyle, Eddie Doyle, Dick Carber and Alice Carber. Dick runs the loader and Penny runs the scalehouse at Shafton Quarry. Last year’s champions did, however, win second place. Cal Paup is superintendent and Dean Paup runs the portable dredge. The team of Dave Simnacher, Barb Campbell, Tony Manatt and Piper Manatt came in third. Dave works on the crushing crew at Cedar Rapids South Quarry. Following the bowling, we all retired to the lounge for pizza, awards, and door prizes (see lower-right list). Thank you, once again, to WQI for providing the pizza, our venders for providing the prizes, and all the employees, spouses, and significant others for bowling and making this another fun company outing. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year at the “9th Annual WQI Bowling Tournament.”
Congratulations to Greg Croson on bowling his first 300 game on March 11th. Greg had games of 195, 247, and 300 for a 742 series on his regular league night at Idle Hours Lanes in Durant. Way to go Greg! |
