Minimizing downtime is critical
to Manatts, Inc. of Brooklyn, Iowa, one of the
state’s largest road construction companies.
That’s why they count on Truck Country of Des
Moines to keep their trucks rolling and their
projects on schedule.
“We buy one hundred percent of
our Sterling parts and the majority of our ‘all
makes’ parts from Truck Country of Des Moines,”
explains BK Waller, parts manager of Manatts,
Inc. “We get a parts delivery every night from
the distribution center in Chicago. We couldn’t
do better than that if it was right here in
Brooklyn.”
“Outside Salesman Delwin VanWyk
is our primary contact at Truck Country of Des
Moines. We started to buy parts from Delwin four
years ago when he worked at Truck Country’s
Cedar Rapids location,” BK continues. “He’s a
straight shooter and he follows through with
what he says. I have a lot of respect for that.
One time we lost an engine in one of our
rollers. Delwin found a replacement on the floor
of a warehouse and had it to us in eight hours.
That kind of service is hard to beat.” |

Junie Manatt started Manatts, Inc. in
1947 with a Studebaker that required the load to be hand
shoveled, since the truck didn’t have a hydraulic dump
body. Today, Manatts has a fleet of more than 350
trucks. The company operates 30 ready-mix plants
throughout the state of Iowa and is a major business in
the town of Brooklyn. Four cousins own and manage the
company—President Brad Manatt and Vice Presidents Tony,
Mike and John Manatt.
“Brooklyn is a great home for us,” BK
says. “We have branch locations in Newton, Johnston,
Ames, Waterloo and Independence, Iowa, and we are about
an hour from every one of them.”
Manatts, Inc. is actively involved in the
community, including the “Dollars For Scholars” program,
which provides college scholarships to graduates of
Brooklyn schools. And it doesn’t stop there—recently,
when heavy rains caused the collapse of the old Patriot
Bank in Brooklyn during construction of a new bank, the
company’s employees helped demolish the old bank and
move the furniture and equipment to an alternate
location until the new bank could be completed.
Manatts, Inc. and Truck Country of Des
Moines have developed a close working relationship and a
solid bond. Sterling is proud to be part of this winning
team!
