Where is the time going? Once again an issue of the
Mirror is coming up and when I look back at all the
projects and goings’ on since this spring I am amazed.
The “season” has gone very smooth from an IT
standpoint. Our systems are running well and doing all
that we are asking them to do. It makes all the winter
work we scramble to get done well worth the effort when
you look at the volume of work we pass through during
the production months.
We’ve got some great projects on the horizon this
fall. The biggest is definitely the implementation of a
document imaging solution for our Accounts Payable
department. We are currently a beta tester for the
latest Viewpoint release that supports imaging. More to
come on this as we get deeper into the project! I can
tell you already that it is very, very neat stuff…and
could very well reach into other facets and modules of
the system. Jamie has been the lead on this and has
just done a great job developing procedures with help
from Vickie.
I’ve been working with Candace as of late to try and
develop some more import possibilities for data coming
in from the field. Specifically, in automating ticket
input for billing from some of our new ready-mix batch
panels. We’ve been using an import in the Metro office
from their dispatch system for 2 seasons now. Denny
Gallagher has been a big help thus far as a liaison
between Candace and his contacts on the vendor side.
The big advantages in an import like this are the
elimination of redundancy and error reduction. Our
employees can spend more time validating data and
spotting problems instead of keying in data.
John Beaderstadt and Graham Cuninghame will be
heading out east at the end of August for the Bid-2-Win
user conference. B2W is upgrading its platform soon
with a new product called Epiphany. We’re very hopeful
that once this is implemented in Brooklyn the reporting
capabilities will be greatly enhanced. In fact, I’m
willing to bet that much of the expertise and experience
gleaned from the Viewpoint system will correlate to
Epiphany. More to come on that when the guys return
from their lobster eating festival…I mean user
conference.
Everybody has been doing a great job. I’m very
anxious to continue banging away on these projects and
maintaining a quick pace as we roll into the fall and
winter. As always, call if there is something we can do
for you out of Brooklyn. I’ll see many of you in my
travels soon!
