Up
north, the plants have been busy. Waterloo started the
spring out with a bang, then it was slow the end of May
until mid-June.
Throughout the year, we have been bidding
a large amount of work and seemed to be getting a strong
percentage of what was available. The problem was in
how slow some jobs were getting started. There are
still a few jobs bid last winter which have not begun.

We’re wrapping up the First
Baptist Church project, the largest ICF job in
the State, with Peters and Folkerts (see picture
on page 11). Menards started putting up a new
150,000 square feet store in June, which we’re
now wrapping up. Ferguson Plumbing Distribution
Center, at over 600,000 square feet, has
started and will make August and September very
busy. We’re supplying the footings and tilt-up
panels concrete while United is supplying the
floor. This is a great opportunity to further
develop and improve our working relationship
with United Concrete.
La Porte has been plugging along
with various projects including a bridge on
Eagle Road with Taylor. We will be supplying
the City paving project for Cedar Valley Corp.
Darrell has also been helping with the new
Agricultural Museum.
Jesup, under Hank’s management,
has started on the second phase of the school
project. He also has a paving project for
Hershberger to complete.
Independence, with Al in charge,
has started the hospital addition. They have
also been supplying a few hog units. The sewer
plant project plugs along, teaching us much
about dealing with inspectors. They have stayed
steady this year. |

Above: Manatt’s - Waterloo is just finishing up
work at the First Baptist Church in Waterloo.
This is currently the largest ICF job in the
State. Below: ICF is increasingly becoming a
popular choice in new residential construction.

Oelwein started slowly, but Danny has had
a strong July and looking forward to a strong fall. Our
guys, particularly the managers, have continued to do
very well monitoring the work coming up and taking care
of the customers. Some of this work Danny came up with
is because the customer wanted Manatt’s.
Readlyn has been slow, but Dale has kept
busy helping others, especially Denver, where Scott has
been able to sell more for residential work this year.
The second half of this summer and into
the fall promises to keep us busy. It’s a great
feeling to hear the phone ringing with orders, other
plants asking for trucks, and all the trucks moving.
This doesn’t happen without all of us working together. |
