May, I was contacted by Sterling Trucks asking if
Manatt’s would be interested in being “Customer
Spotlighted” in their quarterly sales flyer that goes
out to the North America’s . This flyer is distributed
to all Sterling customers in the USA, Canada, Mexico,
and Central America. The sales flyer has the parts that
are on sale, but it has an added feature in that they
“spotlight” a fleet, telling a little about the history,
community involvement of the company and a little about
the servicing Sterling dealer, in our case Truck Country
of Des Moines. I felt it was a great honor to be asked
to do this, since only 4 fleets a year are selected, so
I agreed, NOT knowing what I was getting myself into.
On May
13, Amber Lutz, from Weyforth-Haas marketing contacted
me to do the interview process. Let me tell you, this
little girl can talk ! four hours later we said our
good-byes and I was left wondering if there would be
enough room on the flyer to hold all the info we had
talked about in our question and answer session. Little
did I know that that was the easy part.
A week or so later, I was contacted by
Ben Weddle of Ben Weddle & Associates for the photo
shoot. He told me he would like a clean Sterling dump
truck and several suggestions for a “backdrop” like one
of our plants or shops for a background, the more
colorful the better. We agreed to a photo shoot the
following week.
The big day arrived and Ben Weddle ,
along with Mike Brunner, the photographer, and myself
set out trying to find the perfect backdrop. We took a
tour of various concrete and asphalt plants in the
Brooklyn area, and were on our way back to the Brooklyn
shop when we passed the flag display here on Jackson
street. Now if you haven’t seen the flag display in
Brooklyn, you need to put this on you’re list of things
to do. There was a light breeze blowing and a dozen
people were putting up bright new shiny flags. Ben, who
was driving, locked the brakes up on his Avalanche and
exclaimed “This is it!”
After getting permission to block off
Jackson street from the city ( special thanks to Will
Hochstetler and Bruce Loving for traffic control) we
started our shoot. We took our clean Sterling dump truck
(special thanks to Randy Young in wash bay) , parked it
broadside in the middle of the street and started
shooting. I thought we would take a picture or two and
be done. How wrong I was. Three hours later and after
300 + pictures we called it a wrap. I have to admit, it
was kind of different, but fun. The flyer will be out in
early September. I will try to get a few to spread
around.
