Manatts has had a tough year losing several key
employees this summer. On June 18th
the Metro Division lost one of our finest, Tom Ward, who
died from liver cancer.
Tom
has worked as a concrete salesman for Manatts since July
1998 when we purchased GNA Concrete. Tom had been
selling concrete in the Des Moines area for many years
and seemed to know everyone in the concrete industry in
the Metro area.
Tom took care of a lot of things for us
at Metro. He bid the concrete for the State Lettings, he
was our expert on colored concrete, he took care of a
lot of our customers and he was always volunteering to
help with the many different organizations that we
belong to like the Iowa Ready Mix Concrete Association.
Hardly a day goes by that something
doesn’t comes up that we never had to deal with in the
past, Tom always took care of these issues for us, and
we didn’t need to worry about it getting done. (As long
as it wasn’t on St. Patrick’s Day)
Tom is survived by his wife, Ruth, five
daughters and their husbands and six grandchildren.
Tom will be missed by his friends, and I
for one, miss Tom a lot. |
