As the I.T. person for Wendling Quarries, I end
up in some really out of the way quarries.
Recently, that meant ending up in Montour, where
one of our newest family members, Jim Little,
suggested I close my eyes for a surprise.
Fortunately, I declined as Jim paraded a dead
Turkey Buzzard in front of me offering to let me
hold it. I declined that invitation as well.
The bird ended up as one of Jim’s specimen’s,
habit of a retired science teacher, as Roger
Lacina’s truck hit the bird before it had a
chance to fly off the road. Jim said it took
little effort to convince Roger the bird was a
buzzard and not an eagle. From my experience,
the smell alone would be enough to convince any
one of the bird’s heritage…my eyes are still
watering.
For anyone traveling to the Montour quarry,
there is another interesting specimen lurking
near by, just ask Jim to show it to you. |
