Our
year had a late start for our subdrain crew and
they stayed busy helping at the racetrack. I
wish I could have those 2 months back now. At
the present time, 2 months of work have all come
together at the same time, might I say the same
week. This crew has never been this far behind
in my entire career here at Manatts. I know Bob
and the crew are doing their best to keep on
schedule. I also know the material trucks that
travel with Bob are giving their all, as well.
There will be long hours and weeks to get caught
back up. Please work extra carefully in this
crunch time. We had an incident on a project
this summer where an employee had his foot and
ankle ran over by the front tire of the motor
grader. This was in a work area where several
other crews were working along with local
traffic flying through. The employee had some
broken bones in his foot and is awaiting surgery
once the swelling goes down. As operators of
equipment, we need to always look before moving
the equipment. As people on the ground working
around this equipment, you need to always assume
the operator cannot see you. Never put yourself
in a blind spot. If I can get the schedule to
even out, the subdrain crew should be busy up to
the end of October.
The sealcoat crew has been split helping
Kurt with several stabilization projects. This
has put the sealcoating schedule way behind
where I would like them. They have basically
started sealcoating the last 2 weeks in August
and have work scheduled up to the first of
October. As we get into the fall season there
are some upcoming Fly Ash projects we have to
complete which should carry them into
mid-October. Now is the fall push! Lets work
safe and smart to finish without incidents or
reworks and to complete these projects on time!
Once again I have included some pictures of the
ever-changing racetrack project. Jake has been
on this project for me since this spring.
Everyday there seems to be changes to the
construction of the facility. It is something I
would not have been able to cover with my normal
workload and I owe Jake a big Thank You! Jake
is now working with Dale and Chico placing rock
as needed in front of the asphalt paving and
trying to coordinate several other fires. I am
hoping that within the next week or two I can
get him back to the office and general field
management duties that he was hired for.
Watch out for the school buses and the fall
harvest that will be starting soon. Watch for
the slow moving farm equipment.
