We got off to a slow start this summer due to the
seemingly constant rain throughout May and June, but now the
plants are in full swing and still have plenty of work on the
books for the rest of the year.
After the slow start, the Southern plants excelled in
July and August, thus many of the plants are ahead of last year
in cubic yards year to date.
Grinnell has been having a banner year, largely due to
Monsanto building a production facility just east of town.
As of today, September 6th, roughly 17,000
cubic yards have been delivered to the Monsanto project.
Belle Plaine currently has produced over twice as many
yards as last year at this time.
Reed has been busy this year pulling levers, and
delivering concrete to a large project at Pierce Lumber.
Tama is busy producing ready mix as well as
pumping and selling sand to several large projects in the area.
Tama’s large ready mix jobs include a paving job at the
Meskwaki settlement, several box culverts along highway 30 and a
new bank in Toledo.
Wally has been busy in Victor hauling concrete to the new
elementary school in Brooklyn and several projects in the
Brooklyn industrial park.
Traer is right
on pace with last year and has several projects yet to do.
Vernon’s larger projects include Traer street paving,
several hog confinements and a box culvert.
Tipton is having a great year so far and with the work
Rory has yet to do, it may be a record year.
Tipton has already produced for two paving jobs and is
scheduled to supply yet another one later this month.
Vinton is very close to last years pace.
Vinton’s summer/fall projects include interstate
patching, hog confinements and a county bridge.
Newhall is another plant that is
having a year well ahead of last year.
Newhall has had a busy year with residential work as well
as a county bridge.
Grundy Center has many projects ongoing including several
box culverts and hog confinements.
The
July letting was a great success for the ready mix division.
We got the concrete on several bridges, culverts and
grading projects along the new Highway 520 in Grundy County.
We have put up a portable dry batch plant in Wellsburg,
managed by Eric Brashaw, to produce for those projects.
The total yardage for the Grundy jobs is 11,500 cubic
yards, most of which will be delivered next spring.
Please finish the year working safely, and
also, please wear your
hard hats!
