Bard Materials
Bard Materials was founded in 1946 and is based in Dyersville, IA. In 2000, a portion of the company was sold to Manatts, Inc. The partnership between the two companies works well because of the similarities in history, vision, and mission. Bard Materials is a leading supplier of ready mix concrete and aggregates in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Determann Asphalt was established in 1938 and is located in Camanche, IA. Determann services the Iowa counties of Clinton, Jackson, and Scott and the county of Whiteside in Illinois. Their services include the production of asphalt mix for private, commercial, state, and federally funded projects. Therefore, no project is too big or small. In addition to its pavement maintenance services, Determann also has a fleet of trucks available for hire. Determann Asphalt was purchased by Manatts, Inc. in 2009.


Douds Stone, LLC
Douds Stone was founded in 1948 with the purchase of the underground mine in Douds, IA. Douds Stone currently operates nine open pit quarries, two underground mines, and two sand operations. Douds Stone became an affiliate of Manatt’s, Inc in 2012.

Illowa Investment, Inc. was founded in 1976 and headquartered in Bluegrass, IA. Illowa’s asphalt operation services Louisa, Muscatine, and Cedar counties and their crack seal operation services Iowa statewide. Illowa Investment, Inc. became an affiliate of Manatts, Inc. in 1987. The services Illowa provides are asphalt and concrete crack and joint sealing, asphalt repairs, asphalt paving, new asphalt construction and tennis court recoating.



L.L. Pelling
L.L. Pelling was founded in 1948. The company’s operations are based in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, with their main office in North Liberty. The partnership between L.L. Pelling and Manatts, Inc. began in 1985.  L.L. Pelling specializes in asphalt paving, but also offers services in concrete curb and gutter, chip and sealcoat, pavement marking, and oil transportation. They serve the Iowa counties of Johnson, Linn, Benton, Jones, Cedar, Iowa, Washington, Keokuk, Henry, Muscatine, and Louisa.



Norris Asphalt
Norris Asphalt was established in 1948 and is headquartered in Ottumwa, IA. Norris became a part of the Manatt family in 1992. The company has grown from a single asphalt plant and crew to, at its peak, a company with five asphalt plants, five crushing plants and 21 quarry locations. As part of the succession plan at Norris, the quarries were sold in early 2012. Norris Asphalt prides itself on quality and in 2011 they were a finalist for Sheldon G. Hayes award, which is the nation’s top asphalt paving award.



United Concrete
United Concrete was established in 1969. They serve Black Hawk County with two ready mix plants in the Cedar Valley. The main office is located in Elk Run Heights with the other plant located in Waterloo. United Concrete became an affiliate of Manatts, Inc. in 1970. United Concrete currently has 20 ready mix trucks to service the area. In addition to ready mix concrete, they are also a distributor of concrete blocks and sell concrete washout bags.



Wendling Quarries, Inc.
In 1987, Wendling Quarries, Inc. became a subsidiary of Manatts, Inc. In the beginning, their service area included a few counties in Eastern Iowa; today, it has grown to include 14 counties throughout Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. There are approximately 100 quarries in operation. Wendling Quarries services include the production of crushed stone, sand, gravel, and asphalt mix along with the processing of recycled concrete and asphalt.



Cunningham-Reis was established in 1914 by Chet Cunningham and Paul Reis. At a young age, Earl Anderson started working for Cunningham-Reis and worked his way up to eventually purchasing the company in 1968. When Earl purchased the company, the headquarters were in downtown Des Moines. In 1985 Cunningham-Reis moved to Van Meter, Iowa, where it is still located today. Roger Anderson and David Anderson, Earl’s two boys, started working for their father in 1982 and 1983 and eventually would take over the company.
