2025 APAI & GIAC Awards
Manatt’s is proud to be recognized with two top honors from the Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa (APAI) and the Greater Iowa Asphalt Conference (GIAC)—APAI’s annual industry conference—celebrating exceptional quality, craftsmanship, and teamwork on the Highway 63 shoulder expansion project in Poweshiek County.
The project received the Robert M. Nady Award of Excellence, APAI’s highest recognition for asphalt construction quality. This prestigious award honors the legacy of Robert M. Nady, a pioneer in Iowa’s asphalt industry known for advancing quality materials and construction practices. Each year, the award is presented to the best quality‑constructed road project in the state, selected for its design, complexity, and construction excellence.
Manatt’s was also honored with the Quality Management Asphalt (QMA) Award for Primary Highway Rehabilitation for the Highway 63 two‑lane rural conventional mix. This award recognizes pavements that demonstrate superior smoothness, density, quality control, and overall appearance—representing the best‑of‑the‑best in long‑lasting hot mix asphalt performance.
“These achievements reflect the outstanding dedication and craftsmanship of our paving crew and plant personnel,” said Mike McDonald, Superintendent, Newton Asphalt. “Their commitment to quality, safety, and precision ensured every detail met the highest standards. From planning to execution, the teamwork and professionalism displayed by everyone involved truly set the benchmark for excellence in our industry.”
Project Coordinator Maisey Ranfeld‑Haines added, “I’m incredibly proud of our team for raising the bar and redefining paving excellence in Iowa.”
The awards were accepted by Mike McDonald and team members during the APAI Annual Awards Luncheon on December 11. The crew was also recognized at GIAC on March 5th, where Mike McDonald, Josh Sadler, and Eric Doty represented Manatt’s.
These honors highlight the expertise, collaboration, and pride our teams bring to every project—delivering high‑quality infrastructure that supports Iowa communities for years to come.
