Project Overview

The Iowa DOT needed a complete reconstruction of a key rural connector along U.S. Highway 63.

The corridor faced heavy traffic volumes and long-standing subgrade issues.

Manatt’s was selected based on its ability to self-perform across all scopes, from grading to concrete paving—ensuring greater schedule control, fewer delays, and consistency across crews.

Our Approach

Manatt’s crews performed all grading, milling, and paving work in-house, backed by support from our Transportation & Fleet division.

Our Ready Mix team supplied over 12,000 cubic yards of PCC directly to the site from two regional batch plants.

Work was executed in carefully staged phases to maintain traffic flow, with multiple crews working simultaneously across grading, subdrain installation, and slipform paving. Our team introduced weekly alignment check-ins with the DOT to accelerate approvals and reduce downtime between pours.

Outcome & Results

The project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule with zero OSHA recordables and high satisfaction from both the DOT and the local community.

The corridor now provides improved drivability, drainage, and safety for over 7,000 vehicles daily.

What we delivered:

8.2 Miles Of Full-Depth Reconstruction
82,000 Square Yards Of PCC Paving
12,400 Cubic Yards Of Ready Mix Produced
3 Regional Manatt’s Divisions Coordinated On-Site
What our partners are saying:

“Working with Manatt’s meant we didn’t have to worry about the timeline or the quality. They owned it from start to finish.
